Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber Of Commerce

Prince Edward Island Business Women's Association

I have been thinking a lot lately about role models and mentors. It occurred to me that mentors can be found anywhere. My daughter participated in an all-star baseball tournament a couple of weeks ago and I was so impressed with the young female coach that headed up the team. She was barely 18 years old but showed more grace and people skills than many older adults that I have encountered in children’s activities. She was a great role model for the girls! The world could use more like her to mentor our children.

In the business world, finding great mentors is the key to a successful career. For the mentor, being a great role model is one of the greatest contributions you can make in your career and it is not reserved for managers. All members of an organization can be great role models and mentors. Helping others obtain success helps you attain success too!

LeadershipIn their book “Leadership: It Is Not Just for Leaders”, Audie and Karen Roy, wrote:

“Leading is not just about being at the top of the corporate ladder, or being the president of your own business. Each of us has the capacity within us to be a leader.”

Being a great role model and mentor is the best style of leadership you can adopt. Remember all eyes are on you, so reach out and make a difference. It is what I want my daughter to learn from people like her all-star coach.

That is the best way to make your mark on the world!

Have a great week.

Lisa
