In last week's newsletter, I asked you to stay tuned to hear exciting news about a fun, creative element we are adding to the Second Ever Marrek Solutions Trade Show. Please see "Marrek Moments" for details.
Why is it the short, four day weeks seem the longest? I spent most of last week writing course material and put in some pretty long days. I realized, after the fact, that those days probably could have been shorter if I practiced what I preach and listened to what my client was asking for. Let me clarify... I don't want my existing or potential clients out there to think I don't listen!
Listening comes in many forms - listening to the verbal dialogue and listening to the words in the written proposal or emails etc. Listening is paying attention to the detail. Listening is checking your notes. Sometimes we get so busy that we start into a project without doing these things and then as we put the final touches on the product, we double check the proposal or our notes and guess what? We forgot something!
Take the time to "listen" first - do it right the first time! You will save time and energy.

Tips for Effective Listening
- Face the other person and look directly at them
- Show that you are attentive - do not fidget
- Take notes
- Try to visualize what the other is saying
- Always keep an open mind
- Try to imagine how the other person feels
- Don't jump in with solutions or suggestions - wait for their cue
- Ask permission to ask questions
- Ask questions only to clarify your understanding
- Pay close attention to what ISN'T being said
