This week,
I want to talk a little about relationship networking. You all know
about networking. You all know the importance of building business relationships.
But do you know about relationship networking?
Relationship
networking is networking to build relationships - not just to secure
a new client. It is when you go beyond the exchange of business cards,
the first meeting and the first contract. It is when you call someone
because you really care how he or she is doing. It is when you do something
extra that you don't bill them for. It is when you remember an important
event in their lives and you ask them how it went. It is when you sincerely
ask about their families.
I am very
fortunate to have developed many strong ties over my past three and
a half years in business. These people are friends, not just clients
and not just business associates. Many of you came out to the Trade
Show last week simply to support me. You know who you are. I know who
you are and I thank you.

Moments
Here
is what people thought about the Trade Show;
"Congratulations
- that was a great effort yesterday evening!
I commend you and your team on a well-run show.
There was something for everyone there, and I had the most fun networking
and shopping.
I enjoyed painting a decorative ball with Annette at Crock-a-Doodle,
too.
Very best wishes to you for continued success."
Sincerely,
Cheron Long-Landes.

"Thank
you for the invitation to the tradeshow, I had a very good time and
made some great contacts. Congratulations on a great event."

Women Moving Forward
"I
couldn't believe how many people you had out there last night. It blew
me away."
Barbara Moore, Maximum Services
"I
just wanted to let you know that I dropped by the show last night at
the Burlington Arts Centre for "just a few minutes" and stayed
for over an hour.
I met some nice people, spent some money and with any luck maybe I have
some potential clients. Keep in touch."

Tips

-
Network.
Get out and meet people. Tell everyone you know about your business.
-
Be
patient but busy. Success doesn't happen over night. Success won't
happen if you don't keep active. Write articles. Get involved in
volunteer and community activities. Be visible.
-
Join
Chambers and participate in the activities they offer. You will
build relationships that will develop into business opportunities.
-
Be
professional. Don't settle for poor quality business cards and flyers.
They won't work. If you want others to take you seriously you have
to invest in your image. It isn't as expensive as you think.
-
Stay
focused but open to new ideas and opportunities. Focus on where
you want to be in five years. Be flexible enough to stray a bit
from your plan to get there.
-
Don't
give up! Accept that you will have bad days (or bad months!) and
occasionally a bad client. Move on. Don't let it get you down.
Remember
Colonel Saunders? He peddled his KFC recipe around and got 1,000 rejections
before someone agreed to give it a go. The more "no's" you
get, the higher your probability of getting a "yes" next time
around! Keep at it and keep positive!
