There
was an article in the latest Oakville Chamber Advocate called "Want
to Grow Your Business?" by John Breakey of UNIS LUMIN. A couple
of points really hit home and are things that I see every day while
coaching small business owners.
- The
"I'm too busy" scenario - John calls this a short-term strategy.
"Being too busy is a code word for not delegating enough".
Learn to delegate!
- Owners
that spend less time IN the business, have more profitable businesses.
Learn how to work "on" your business, not "in"
it!
- Think
about where you are investing your time. Time IS money.
Good advice.
The "I'm too busy" scenario is also something I see a lot
of in the corporate world. So if you are a corporate leader and you
are NOT delegating, ask yourself why. Effective delegation, delegation
done properly, is good for both you and your people.
Now if
only it would work on my kids!

the task that you want to delegate - be specific
- Choose
the person you are going to delegate to
- Make
sure they have the ability, skills and desire to do the task
- Tell
them why you are delegating (if it is just to get something off your
desk - tell them that - be honest - don't try and glorify it)

- Agree
on time frames
- Support,
communicate and provide feedback
