Whew! Where to start? Whoever said your business takes off in the third year wasn't kidding!
I remember getting my first contract as an entrepreneur. The client came to me! I wasn't even set up as a business yet. He had heard the rumour that I was going into business for myself and wanted to be my first customer!

Wow! I can remember thinking how easy this was going to be. I completed the contract with him and then? NOTHING! It took me SIX months to get another client!
But I did it. I did it through networking, following up with contacts, joining Chambers, doing volunteer work, committing to speaking engagements, getting a professional looking website, passing out business cards etc etc…

Hard work…hard work that paid off. I am busier than ever. So, if you are struggling …hang in there. Be persistent. Keep laying the groundwork. It pays off.

Networking Tips from "The Art of Networking", Marrek Solutions Inc

1. Plan your networking - know in advance who will be at the event and if they are your target market.
2. Be patient. It doesn't happen overnight.
3. Practice your introduction until it sounds natural.
4. Remember to include a benefit statement and a call to action.
5. Don't waste valuable networking time hanging around with the people you came with - you KNOW them already!
6. Get good at asking questions.
7. Get even better at listening to the answers.
8. Have fun!
