Professionalism: Exhibiting behaviour that conforms to standards of a profession; having or showing great skill. That is the dictionary definition. What does it mean to you? To me it means demonstrating high standards and quality of work in everything I do. From a business owner perspective, professionalism is about holding your clients in high regard. Treating them with respect. Delivering what you say you will deliver. Bending over backwards to keep your commitments and apologizing if you can’t.
The number of individuals starting up their own small businesses is staggering. Will they all succeed? No, of course not. However, I am willing to bet that demonstrating professionalism will increase their chance of survival. Stand out – set and conform to high standards. Be successful.
