It is with great pleasure that The Marrek Group welcomes our readers in Atlantic Canada. We look forward to helping you and your teams thrive in your business.

Helping people to thrive at work is the key to organizational success. In the “knowledge age” opening the floodgates of creativity and productivity calls for a new perspective on managing. It calls for servant leadership, clearly defined by Herb Kelleher, founder and Executive Chairman of the Board of Southwest Airlines:

"We're not looking for blind obedience. We're looking for people who, on their own initiative, want to be doing what they're doing because they consider it to be a worthy objective. I have always believed that the best leader is the best server. And if you're a servant, by definition you're not controlling."

(A Culture of Commitment by Herb Kelleher Leader to Leader, No. 4 Spring 1997)

People want to create, to be a part of something bigger than them selves, and to leave their mark on the world. I see it in my children; two strong-minded girls who have very definite ideas about the way things should be done. The longest, most drawn out activities with the girls occur when I try to get them to do things my way (I wonder where they get it from!?) Things go much more smoothly when I give them the tools and information they need to do their thing and let them go to it.

If it starts out as a natural part of us, then creativity and productivity, when left on their own, will surely show in your employees too!

Please see the Tips section below for ways to release your employees’ potential.

Have a great week!

Lisa
